Have you been arrested?

Have you been arrested?

“There can be no equal justice where the kind of trial a man gets depends on the amount of money he has”
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black, 1964

If you are arrested particularly for the first time, it can be an extremely shocking and disturbing experience. It is very important you get legal advice right from the outset, because what happens at the Police Station will determine what happens to your case.

You should always have a lawyer with you at the Police Station and our telephone number is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Advice at the Police Station is largely free and not means tested and you will need a lawyer present if you are to be interviewed under caution by the Police.

You will require advice as to whether or not to answer the questions put to you by the Police or utilise your right to remain silent or alternatively provide a prepared statement.

We can also provide advice as to how long you can be held at the Police Station and explain the disposals and ways of dealing with you open to the Police. It is important you understand what can happen to you if charged with an offence or if you are offered a caution and the implications of the various disposals.
